Overview
Punjab National Bank (PNB), one of India's leading public sector banks, has announced a significant recruitment drive for the position of Local Bank Officer (LBO) under Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I). A total of 545 vacancies have been notified across 17 states and Union Territories, making this a state-specific recruitment where candidates must apply for exactly one state and demonstrate proficiency in that state's designated local language. Key Points:
- Each applicant may apply for only one state. Applying for multiple states will render the candidature invalid.
- Merit lists will be prepared separately for each state and each reservation category.
- Candidates from reserved categories for which no vacancy exists in a particular state may apply under the Unreserved (UR) category, provided they meet the UR eligibility criteria.
- Selected officers will be posted within the applied state for a period of nine years or until promotion to SMG Scale IV, whichever comes first.
- PwBD reservations are applied horizontally across categories; suitable posting locations within the state will be identified by the bank.
Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
Applicants must be citizens of India. Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who arrived in India before 1 January 1962, and persons of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the intent to permanently settle in India are also eligible, provided they hold a valid eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.
Age Limit
Candidates must be between 20 and 30 years of age. Age relaxation for SC/ST, OBC, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, and other categories will be applied as per prevailing government guidelines.
Educational Qualification
A Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a university or institution recognised by the Government of India or its regulatory bodies is mandatory. Candidates must hold a valid mark sheet or degree certificate confirming graduate status on the date of online registration and must enter their graduation percentage during the application process.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of post-qualification work experience in a Clerical or Officer capacity at any Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank listed under the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934, is required. Candidates with prior Officer-level experience at Scheduled Commercial Banks are eligible for advance increments — one increment per completed year of service, up to a maximum of two increments. However, prior experience will not be counted towards seniority in the new role.
Local Language Proficiency
Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the state-specific local language is compulsory. Candidates who have not studied the relevant language as a formal subject at Class 10 or Class 12 level will be required to appear for a Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT), which will be administered by an external agency appointed by the bank.
Selection Process
The selection of candidates for the LBO role will be carried out through a multi-stage process designed to assess both technical banking knowledge and local language capability:
- Online Written Test: An objective/descriptive examination to assess reasoning, English, quantitative aptitude, professional knowledge, and banking awareness.
- Screening: Shortlisting of eligible candidates based on performance in the written test.
- Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT): Conducted for candidates who have not formally studied the local language at secondary level.
- Personal Interview: Final round to evaluate communication skills, banking acumen, and overall suitability for the officer role.
