How do I know if banks are open today?
Banks are closed on all Sundays, on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month, and on holidays declared by the RBI for your state under the Negotiable Instruments Act. This page checks all three for today's date in India and shows the status for every state.
Are banks open on Saturday?
Banks are closed on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month. The 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays are working days. A five-day banking week (all Saturdays off) has been agreed between IBA and the unions but is still awaiting government notification.
Do UPI, ATMs and net banking work on bank holidays?
Yes. UPI, ATMs, internet and mobile banking, IMPS, and NEFT/RTGS run 24×7 on bank holidays. Only branch services such as cash deposits at the counter, cheque clearing and demand drafts are unavailable.
What is a regional bank holiday?
Some RBI holidays apply only to specific cities or districts within a state. On those days, branches in the listed cities are closed while branches elsewhere in the state stay open. They are marked 'Closed in some cities' above — check with your branch.
Will cheques be cleared on a bank holiday?
No. Cheque clearing (CTS) does not run on bank holidays in the affected clearing zone. A cheque deposited before a holiday is processed on the next working day.
