SBI Promotion Exam 2026–27
The 2025–26 promotion cycle is complete. The next cycle (2026–27) is expected in December 2026 – January 2027. Use this window to clear JAIIB and prepare — the exam pattern and syllabus remain consistent year-on-year.
About SBI Clerical to Trainee Officer Promotion
The State Bank of India (SBI) conducts annual internal promotion exams for eligible employees through the Central Recruitment and Promotion Department (CRPD). The Clerical to JMGS-I (Trainee Officers) promotion converts SBI clerks to probationary officers with a significant salary jump and expanded branch responsibilities.
SBI offers three promotion channels for clerical staff: the Trainee Officers (TO) Channel (fast-track), the Merit Channel, and the Normal cum Seniority Channel. Specialist cadre employees have separate exam dates. The exam pattern and syllabus are consistent across cycles — what changes year to year is only the schedule and vacancy count.
Expected 2026–27 Cycle Timeline
All dates are estimates based on the 2025–26 cycle pattern. Official dates will be confirmed in the CRPD circular.

Do this now — don't wait for the circular
Clear JAIIB before the 2026–27 window opens
SBI's promotion policy requires JAIIB — either as a hard prerequisite or as bonus marks in the merit list. The November 2026 JAIIB exam is your best opportunity to qualify before the 2026–27 promotion cycle begins.
PPB = your promotion exam syllabus
One preparation. Two exams cleared.
Section I of the SBI promotion exam draws heavily from JAIIB PPB — KYC, banker-customer relationship, lending principles, financial inclusion, and NPA. Preparing for PPB gets you ready for both simultaneously.
How to Prepare for SBI Promotion Exam 2026–27
Clear JAIIB first — it unlocks eligibility and bonus marks
Start with JAIIB PPB — it maps almost exactly to Section I. PPB alone covers General Awareness, General Banking, and parts of Products & Services for 50+ marks of the promotion exam.
Study SBI-specific products, subsidiaries, and schemes
20 marks are from SBI's product portfolio — retail loans, financial inclusion schemes (Jandhan, PM SVANidhi), and subsidiaries (SBI Life, SBI Mutual Fund, SBI Cards). Read SBI's Annual Report and product brochures.
Stay current on CBS and digital channels
25 marks come from IT knowledge — YONO, CBS, UPI, NACH, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, and IT security. SBI's digital products evolve fast — stay updated with internal circulars and SBI's press releases.
Track SBI's quarterly financial results
5 marks come from Latest Financial Results. Know SBI's NPA ratio, CASA ratio, net profit, credit-deposit ratio, and key performance metrics. Follow the quarterly results announcements from now.
Practise essay writing regularly
Section II is 20 marks in 40 minutes. Practise weekly essays on: Digital Banking, Financial Inclusion, NPA Resolution, Green Banking, and Government Flagship Schemes. Aim for 400–500 words with a clear structure.
Maintain a clean APAR record
A single 'Below Average' APAR can delay your promotion by 2 years. Build a visible track record every cycle — NPA recovery, cross-selling, government scheme targets. Vigilance clearance is also mandatory.
