Overview
Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), a Government of India Undertaking, is recruiting Security Guards for its Subordinate Staff Cadre. This exclusive recruitment drive targets Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers from the Indian Armed Forces. A total of 25 positions are available across General, OBC, SC, and EWS categories. Vacancy Details
The recruitment offers 25 positions distributed across reserved and general categories:
- General (GEN): 12 posts
- Other Backward Classes (OBC): 7 posts
- Scheduled Castes (SC): 4 posts
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 2 posts
- Scheduled Tribes (ST): 0 posts
These vacancies are exclusively reserved for Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers (excluding Disabled Ex-Servicemen). Reserved-category candidates may also apply for General category posts if otherwise qualified. The final vacancy count is provisional and subject to the bank's actual operational needs.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidate Category: Applications are restricted to Ex-Servicemen, Ex-Agniveers from the Army, Navy, or Air Force. Currently serving personnel whose Specific Period of Engagement (SPE) concludes on or before 30 September 2026 are also eligible. However, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Disabled Ex-Servicemen, and dependents of servicemen killed in action are ineligible.
Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed 10th standard or an equivalent examination. Importantly, they must not have cleared Graduation or any equivalent higher qualification.
Character and Medical Standards: Candidates must have received an "Exemplary" character rating at the time of valid discharge from the Armed Forces. Medical fitness of SHAPE-1 or AYE (as applicable) at discharge is mandatory.
Language Requirement: Proficiency in Tamil—specifically the ability to speak, read, and write—is essential for this role.
Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees (pre-1962), or persons of Indian origin who migrated from eligible nations with intent to settle permanently in India.
Age Limit
Age is calculated as of 01 August 2026. Relaxations apply based on category and service period:
- General: Maximum 26 years + actual defence service duration + 3 years (capped at 45 years)
- SC/ST: Maximum 31 years + actual defence service duration + 3 years (capped at 45 years)
- OBC: Maximum 29 years + actual defence service duration + 3 years (capped at 45 years)
- Agniveer: Maximum 21 years + actual Agniveer service + 3 years
The minimum age requirement is 18 years for all categories.
Pay Scale and Probation
Selected candidates will be placed on the Subordinate Staff Cadre pay scale: ₹19,500–₹37,815 (as per the 12th Bipartite Settlement). Basic pay fixation is determined by the candidate's last drawn salary during military service, supplemented with emoluments per the Bipartite Settlement and bank policies.
Candidates must successfully complete a 6-month probationary period of active service before confirmation in the position.
Selection Process
The selection comprises three sequential stages:

Stage 3: Physical Fitness Test (PFT) – 100 Marks

Scoring Criteria:
- Push-Ups/Sit-Ups: 30+ repetitions = 30 marks; 21–29 reps = 25 marks; 15–20 reps = 20 marks; 14 or below = Fail
- 1 km Run: Under 4 minutes = 30 marks; 4–5 minutes = 20 marks; 5–6 minutes = 10 marks; over 6 minutes = Fail
Candidates must pass all four PFT components individually with minimum prescribed scores. Only one attempt per component is permitted.
Job Responsibilities
Security Guards will be responsible for comprehensive security and surveillance operations at bank premises. Key duties include monitoring CCTV systems, operating access control mechanisms, metal detectors, hand-held metal detectors, maintaining fire-fighting equipment and alarm systems, and performing assigned duties on rotating shifts including night assignments.
