Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has issued a recruitment notification for aspiring banking professionals to join as Local Bank Officers (LBO) in the Junior Management Grade Scale I (JMGS-I) cadre. Vacancy Details
A total of 250 Local Bank Officer positions are available, distributed among four states. Prospective candidates must select and apply for only one state. Merit lists will be prepared on a state-wise and category-wise basis. The state-wise vacancy distribution is as follows:
- Tamil Nadu: 100 Vacancies (Mandatory Language: Tamil)
- Karnataka: 50 Vacancies (Mandatory Language: Kannada)
- Maharashtra: 50 Vacancies (Mandatory Language: Marathi)
- Gujarat: 50 Vacancies (Mandatory Language: Gujarati)
Detailed information regarding category-wise reservations (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) sub-quotas for each state is provided in the comprehensive official notification. The number of vacancies is provisional and may be subject to change based on the Bank's requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
Nationality/Citizenship
Applicants must be citizens of India or fall under other specific categories as defined by the Government of India, including subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees, or persons of Indian origin who have migrated to India with the intention of permanent settlement, subject to necessary certification.
Educational Qualification
Candidates are required to possess a Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a university recognized by the Central Government or an equivalent qualification. It is imperative that applicants hold a valid mark sheet or degree certificate confirming their graduate status on the date of online registration and accurately provide their graduation percentage during the application process.
Age Limit
As on 01.08.2026, candidates must be between 20 and 30 years of age. This means applicants should have been born no earlier than 02.08.1996 and no later than 01.08.2006 (both dates inclusive). Age relaxations are applicable for various reserved categories as per Government of India guidelines:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years
- Persons affected by 1984 riots: 5 years
- Ex-servicemen/Commissioned Officers (with at least 5 years military service): 5 years
Cumulative age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC categories is permissible up to a maximum upper age limit of 50 years, provided the candidate meets the specified conditions.
Mandatory Language Proficiency
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the mandatory local language of the state for which they are applying.
Application Fee
The application fee is payable online and varies by category:
- SC/ST/PwBD Candidates: ₹175 (inclusive of GST) - Intimation charges only
- General/EWS/OBC Candidates: ₹850 (inclusive of GST)
Fees can be paid using Debit Card, Credit Card, Internet Banking, or UPI/BHIM. This fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable.
Salary Structure
Selected candidates for the Local Bank Officer (JMGS-I / Scale I) post will receive a basic pay scale ranging from ₹48,480 to ₹85,920. In addition to the basic pay, successful candidates will be eligible for Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), and other allowances as per the Bank's prevailing rules. Provision for one or two advance increments may also be considered for prior officer-level experience in a Scheduled Commercial Bank, subject to matching job profiles.
Selection Process
The selection process for the IOB Local Bank Officer positions will involve a multi-stage evaluation:
